Arcana Anamorphic
The mysterious world of "Arcana" offers a brand new way to look at anamorphic lenses. The DZOFILM ARCANA series perfectly balances wide cinematic images with a small, lightweight design. By mixing great optics with smart engineering, these lenses help you discover new ways to tell your story.
I used the DZOFilm Arcana lenses on both my Sony FX3A and Canon C50, and what stood out to me most was how natural the anamorphic look felt.
They gave my footage more character, depth, and emotion without making the image feel forced or overly stylized. On the FX3A, they helped soften that clean digital look and made the camera feel more cinematic while still staying compact. On the Canon C50, they felt even more at home, giving the image a polished and intentional feel.
What I really appreciate is that DZOFilm found a nice balance here. The flares, oval bokeh, and anamorphic character are all there, but they do not distract from the story. They add feeling to the frame instead of taking it over.
These lenses do make you slow down and think more about focus, framing, and composition, but that is part of what I enjoyed. They made me feel more connected to the shot.
Overall, the Arcana lenses hit a sweet spot between character, usability, and image quality. They made both cameras feel more cinematic in their own way, and I genuinely enjoyed creating with them.
The resolution is remarkably sharp—almost unbelievable for an anamorphic lens—yet without the overly harsh edge definition often associated with modern optics. This character is even more apparent in still photography than in video.
Being a medium telephoto lens, it also leaves a bit more room in the corners. In some situations, the image can actually look too clean, making the anamorphic character feel somewhat subdued. That said, considering its compact size and outstanding resolving power, I think it's a worthwhile trade-off.
The best modern budget anamophic lenses i've used so far. I've gone through a lot of anamorphic lenses in the last two years: the Sirui Venus and Mars and the Blazar Remus and Mantis. The DZOFilm Arcana are by far the best out of the lenses above. Finally there is a set of budget friendly anamorphic lenses, that have the character and distortion of traditional glass without the soft or clinical look, that some competitors offer. The hybrid design offers a classic 2x Look at a 1,5x squeeze-factor. (very mangeable even on 16:9 video output) The Arcanas are lightweight and can easily be operated on a gimbal or an all-day handheld rig. Absolutely no problem for small crews or solo operators. With a anamorphic look that rivals and in some parts surpasses some of the more expensive options, like the Atlas Mercurys, I'll recommend these lenses at any time.
I haven't even used the lens yet but the mere fact that DZO helped me tremendously by delivering the lens BEFORE June 6th is absolutely phenomenal. You guys rock!!
I will also be doing a lens test short film soon, so keep on the lookout.
THANK YOU DZO!! (Also, this is my first anamorphic lens but the build quality feels super premium and compact - another star added for this lens.)
I found the distortion toward the edges to be stronger than I expected. Since it’s effectively around a 32mm (×1.5), that’s understandable, but I actually liked how this distortion gives the image a more organic feel.
To be honest, I didn’t have very high expectations at first, but the center sharpness is truly impressive. I also used it for 60MP still photography, and the center resolution holds up perfectly—it's extremely sharp, even more than I anticipated. Considering how compact this lens is, the image quality feels almost unfair.
As for flare, other manufacturers might render it in a more “organic” or cinematic way, but overall the performance here is still very strong.
Hands down, one of the best budget anamorphic lens sets I’ve used. The wide angle focal length is an absolute highlight, the distortion control, sharpness & color rendering are incredible. I’d recommend these to any cinematographer without hesitation; you definitely won't regret buying them
It's a great lens, and it's very fun to shoot with. The character is beautiful. On an APS-C format sensor, the 32mm is an ideal all-around focal length!
I am enjoying exploring the joys of anamorphic lenses and the Arcana combines wonderfully with the Blackmagic Pyxis 12k.
Shooting in opengate adds the extra height to go with the lenses extra width.
The image separation between foreground and background is impressive in the way the background is out of focus but still conveying much information.
The build of the lens is solid and stylish and a joy to use with smooth focus and aperture rings.
Won't be my last DZO lens.
Very impressive to be able to get image characteristics like the Arcanas deliver at their price point! I've been waiting for lenses like this to come along for a very long time.
Incredible quality ! Fantastic protective case ! Image quality from lenses are outstanding ! A great product over all !
A little slow with shipping , but well worth the wait !
It took awhile to ship but once i received it, it's incredible. THe build quality is extremely impressive. The image is crazy sharp for a 1.5x anamorphic. Highly recommended
Cinema cameras with built-in displays, such as the Blackmagic URSA series, typically support 1.5× de-squeeze by default. For mirrorless cameras like the Sony FX series, some models may require the latest firmware update or the use of an external monitor to achieve de-squeezed preview. We recommend checking with your camera manufacturer to confirm whether your specific model supports 1.5× display mode.
Can the mount of the Arcana be changed by the user?
Due to structural limitations, the Arcana is currently available only in a PL mount version. To adapt it to other camera systems, you can use the DZOFilm Octopus adapter series or other PL mount adapters.
Does the Arcana have electronic features? Does it support Cooke /i Technology?
No. The Arcana is a fully manual optical lens design with no electronic components. Therefore, it does not support Cooke /i protocol, electronic aperture, or autofocus.
