Clean with caracter, just awesome for the size
Great quality and works perfect with Blackmagic Pyxis 12K and the DJI Focus Pro and the Elgato Prompter.
My first impression upon unpacking: the build quality is worth the price. The all-metal body has a matte finish and feels very solid in the hand. Compared to its sibling, the Arles Lustre, the VP2 has a more modern and minimalist design. The aperture and focus rings have smooth and even damping, offering a better feel than some other Japanese cinema lenses I've handled before. What surprised me most was its size. Although it's a full-frame cinema lens, its size is well-controlled, making it perfectly suitable for use with a stabilizer. I was initially worried that a cinema lens would be bulky, but in actual use, it's manageable even for solo use.
As someone who shoots commercial shorts and documentaries, the Vespid Prime 2 feels solid, clean, and professional. The T1.9 aperture performs very well in low light. The image is sharp without looking overly “digital,” skin tones are natural, and there’s plenty of room for color grading in post. The lens is relatively lightweight, making it easy to use on a gimbal. The consistent size across the set is very practical on set, since swapping lenses doesn’t require constant rig adjustments. Focus rotation is smooth with even resistance, which works great for follow focus setups. Keep in mind this is a PL-mount cinema lens, so you’ll need a compatible camera or proper adapter. Overall, for the price, it delivers impressive image quality and professional features—great value for independent filmmakers and commercial production teams.
